A new national strategy for offshore wind development

A new plan outlines how to build enough offshore wind to power millions of homes.
A new national strategy for offshore wind development

The Department of Energy and the Department of the Interior released a new national strategy for offshore wind development in the U.S. last week, further propelling this domestic clean energy industry forward.

The National Offshore Wind Strategy, five years in the making, builds on tremendous momentum created by the first American offshore wind farm, which completed construction this summer and will be generating clean energy by year’s end. The U.S. is on the path to a brighter energy future – to the benefit of communities who will see cleaner air and American manufacturing that will help build, operate and maintain these wind farms.

The Department of Energy and the Department of the Interior, through the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, have been true partners with the industry in the quest to make offshore wind energy a reality in the U.S. We are very much looking forward to continuing our engagement with those agencies to implement the recommendations set forth in the National Strategy, including further reducing the cost of offshore wind and streamlining the permitting process, so that we can get these projects in the water as soon as possible.

Before joining AWEA, Nancy worked at Oceana, a nonprofit ocean conservation advocacy organization, where she focused on promoting offshore wind development. Nancy also worked as Legislative Counsel for the Hon. John H. Adler (NJ-03) (deceased), the New Jersey State Legislature, and is a licensed attorney in the state of New Jersey.
